Nina Garcia is set to take over as Editor-in-Chief at Elle Magazine, according to an announcement from publishing company Hearst Magazines.

Hearst—who brings us monthly magazines like Elle and Marie Claire—announced Tuesday that Garcia will succeed Robbie Myers after she announced her departure after 17 years as EIC.

Garcia will officially begin her tenure at Elle Monday, September 18.

“I’m excited to work with this incredibly talented team to set the pace for women who are moving as fast as the times we live in.”

David Carey, president of Hearst Magazine, praised Garcia for her role in the fashion industry, proving that if anyone is qualified for the job, it’s her.

“Nina embodies all the qualities of a modern editor-in-chief,” Carey said. “She’s an important authority in fashion, respected by her peers for her personal style, her ability to spot talent and her deep relationships across the industry.”

Garcia previously held positions as Elle’s fashion director from 2000 to 2008, a judge on “Project Runway,” and most recently as the creative director at Marie Claire. In a statement, she said that returning to the publication is “a very special homecoming.”

Garcia has also been an advocate for diversity in fashion, charging Latin designers to “re-energize” the industry, crediting her pride in her country as well as her genuine belief in the designer’s talent.

“There are designers that are on the cusp,” said Garcia about the designers that participated in her initiative for New York Fashion Week, Latin Curated. “They have the design background and the talent, but they really need exposure and a more international platform.”

The Colombian-born fashion maven looks forward to contributing to the magazine, which has been a staple in the fashion and beauty industries for decades.

“This is Elle‘s moment to be out in front, inspiring and informing readers in every area. Fashion and beauty are at Elle‘s core, as are culture, politics, health and new media. I’m excited to work with this incredibly talented team to set the pace for women who are moving as fast as the times we live in.”
